2020 CPA Conference: Spiritual Formation of the Mental Health Professional: Open to the VASTness of God's Love
Length: 4 Hours

Psychotherapy is a wholly interpersonal endeavor, which requires deep internal stamina from the mental health professional. This presentation will focus on particular ways that therapists may draw strength and support for their vital work through the spiritual practices of vulnerability and acceptance, so that they may flourish in their vocation to bring healing to others.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be afforded an opportunity for personal reflection in regard to their own experience of their faith tradition and its relationship to self-care.
  • Participants will be able to deepen their integrative view of the person, addressing the mind-body problem through the lens of faith-based anthropology.
  • Participants will be able to identify the salient features of the interrelationship between vulnerability and acceptance within the context of their own spiritual practices.
