A Culturally Informed Clinical Interview: Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment Planning with Diverse Populations


Description: 
The workshop will train clinicians how to enhance their current clinical interviews with culturally informed questions. The clinician will learn how to interpret responses to such questions and use these responses to navigate the decision tree of diagnosis determination and differential diagnosing. Additionally, clinicians will learn to create treatment plans that are culturally informed and culturally applicable, taking into account, but not limited to, immigration history, language fluency, code switching, cultural brokerage, cultural attitudes towards psychotherapy, cultural values and/or traditions, and culture specific family roles.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Clinicians will be able to apply culturally informed questions to their clinical interviews.
  2. Clinicians will be able to identify cultural components that affect differential diagnosing.
  3. Clinicians will be able to design a treatment plan that includes cultural topics such as, but not limited to, cultural identity development, immigration trauma, etc.
