Loving Dangerously: A discussion on the facets of fatherhood

Description:
Societal expectations for the role of the father have shifted over the last several generations. Historically, the father’s function in the was often conceptualized as providing moral guidance, enforcing discipline practices, and serving as the family’s primary breadwinner. However, expectations for fathers have evolved substantially over the last several decades such that most modern fathers are also expected to play a nurturing role and to be active participants in many domains of their family and children’s lives.

As new research in fatherhood has revealed, fathers play, pray, communicate, and defend the family in ways that are distinctly different than mothers. This workshop will review new research in the area of fatherhood, and explore what it means to be a father in a Christian family.
