Total Credits: 2 APA Credit, 2 NBCC Credit
Description:
This course includes three articles from Integratus 2(2), the official journal of the Catholic Psychotherapy Association:
A Call for Indiscriminate Caritas: Proposed Nondiscrimination Clause in the Ethics Code of the Catholic Psychotherapy Association,
In Defense of the CPA Ethics Code: A Response to Zepeda and Loredo,
Clarifying Caritas: A Refinement of the Argument for a Caritas Clause in the Ethics Code of the Catholic Psychotherapy Association,
This forum contributes to the ongoing reflections of the members of the CPA on the organization’s ethics code. Zepeda and Loredo initially raise the concern the new CPA Ethics Code could sanction discrimination against marginalized groups and argue that the code ought to also include a non-discrimination clause. Sodergren clarifies what an ethics code is all about, and the importance of allowing CPA members and clients of CPA members to make informed decisions about whether to join a professional organization or seek psychotherapy from someone who professes to follow Church teaching. Zepeda and Loredo then respond with a clarification of how they think caritas in psychotherapy ought to look.
Participants will carefully read the associated texts via their subscription to Integratus which is included in their current CPA membership. The indicated texts may be accessed online or via printed copy. Upon completion, registrants will complete a quiz to receive 2.0 hrs of CE credit for this course (2 Ethics/Multicultural).
