Description

This presentation, largely based on clinical experience and theoretical background published previously (Cocoli Bowen, 2023), focuses attention on the possibility of the two members of the analytic couple to reach a level of connectedness that is neither experienced nor expected until the very moment it occurs. Faced with direct reality, the analysand’s self-reflective ability expands and deepens, mysteriously and fruitfully. Similarly, the analyst also lives through the intensity of the moment in unprecedented ways, realizing unknown knowledge. This reflection begins in the psychoanalytic area as worked out by psychoanalyst Dr. Wilfred Bion and explores the Catholic intellectual tradition laid out by St. Augustine. It inevitably points towards the unrivaled Augustinian reflection on the meaning and depth of memory.

I am a clinical psychologist in private practice with adults. My focus is psychoanalytic psychotherapy and the complexities of individual internal life. Although my primary focus is clinical, a close second is scholarly work in outlining bridge-concepts that may prove fertile for a dialogue between psychoanalysis and philosophy/theology.

I practice psychotherapy primarily in-person in my office located in Seattle's northern suburbs.

I am also authorized by PsyPact to priactice interjurisdictionally with anyone who wishes to embark on a journey of self-reflection from any participating states.
