The Catholicism and Psychoanalysis SIG and the Seminary Psychology and Assessments SIG are pleased to co-host these informative two hours of reviewing pertinent personality functioning and prototypes observed in Catholic religious from a psychoanalytic perspective. Please consider joining us!
Salon/Cohort: Understanding Clergy/Religious Personality Disorders from a Psychoanalytic Perspective
We will review a psychoanalytic heuristic for understanding and assessing personality disorders from the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual (PDM-2) which has more utility than the predominantly descriptive DSM-5. In particular, we will review the continuum of pathology from healthy/neurotic to borderline to psychotic as foundational in assessing potential clergy for suitability. We will also review the six domains of functioning which contribute to personality functioning including identity integration, object relationships, defensive operations, quality and management of anger/aggression, moral functioning, and reality testing. These will be reviewed within personality prototypes as we have observed them in Catholic religious and a case study will be presented.
Please read these two attached articles recently published in Integratus by the two speakers:
