This presentation will explore research, clinical examples, and pastoral experience on the lasting impact of Acute traumatic experiences on individuals, marriages, and families.    An integrated psychological and spiritual group retreat model will be outlined which addresses emotional, spiritual, and moral injuries.  This method creates a safe environment to help clients facilitate grieving and reconciliation.   This unique approach incorporates trauma sensitive care; somatic and sensory based exercises; as well as meditations and prayers for reconnection and reconciliation through a dynamic group process to recover one’s human dignity and the sacred within.

  • Explain how Living Scripture methods and meditations can be a safe and powerful way to reorganize one’s relationship to past psychological and spiritual trauma so that individuals can reconnect, integrate and mourn their losses.
  • Describe why “talk therapy” may not be sufficient to help clients who have suffered traumatic experiences based on the implications of neuroscience research in PTSD.
