Description: 
This presentation focuses on the adverse mental health issues that can occur as the result of an abortion, and the stages of healing that bring new life to an individual who is grieving this loss. The area of emphasis is on post-traumatic stress and prolonged/complicated grief. The four areas of healing – with God, others, the child, and with self are explored in an integrated manner. The focus is on how women suffer, brief mention is given to men, and special notes on teens and healing. The emphasis is on God’s mercy, and compassion, centered in forgiveness.

Sr. Patricia Barnette is a Licensed Professional Counselor, currently in private practice, offering counseling to adult individuals and couples. Her areas of focus are depression, anxiety, grief and loss, couple counseling and relationship difficulties. She has also worked in Catholic agencies with adults, couples, single mothers and students. Her specialty is post-abortion healing ministry, having volunteered as a counselor with Project Rachel in 4 dioceses and served as an advisor in a post-abortion healing ministry in Ohio for 28 years. She received training at Project Rachel national and local conferences, and has given many talks at pro-life conferences, and at workshops for priests and counselors. Sr. Patricia wrote a book titled “God’s Mercy Awaits You – Find Healing After Abortion”.
