Description:
The apostles and early Church fathers warned about porneia (i.e., masturbation, fornication, adultery, and prostitution). Today, Internet pornography is widespread. Young men (YM) are particularly vulnerable. Consistent, novelty-driven consumption can lead to addiction, impaired cognition, poor relationships, low self-esteem, and sexual aggression. Among YM with faith orientations, pornography use can cause painful emotional states due to moral incongruence with deeply-held beliefs. This workshop will elucidate the concept of sexual addiction, explore its sequaleae, and present psychological treatments and the ancient techniques of the desert fathers.
